Following the release of worrying data from the Higher Education Policy Institute that 1 in 5 students report having a mental health diagnosis, Student Beans is partnering with UK company HealthKey to give UK students access to private healthcare and mental health services for £59/year.

The agreement sees advantages as yet only accessible to corporate employees made available for students for this first time. The essential healthcare services include unlimited GP consultations via text, WhatsApp and video call, six sessions of therapy or counselling, and three wellbeing products covering neurodiversity, LGBTQ+ health, and healthy habits coaching made available.

With university support services operating at maximum capacity, and ongoing challenges in trying to access timely NHS care and mental health support, Student Beans' partnership has the potential to provide relief to millions of students and the system trying to support in giving the right access to essential healthcare.

Student Beans, the top student discount app, has today announced a partnership with modern healthcare platform HealthKey to significantly improve how UK students can access essential healthcare services. Via this collaboration, Student Beans' members will gain access to a comprehensive range of healthcare services for £59 per year, including unlimited GP consultations which can be accessed via text and video call, six sessions of therapy or counselling, and three wellbeing apps covering neurodiversity, LGBTQ+ health, and a healthy habit coach.

HealthKey's platform will also connect students with hundreds of vetted healthcare providers using an Uber-like matching experience designed specifically for students that find it easier to engage with doctors digitally rather than attend surgeries.

This collaboration comes at a critical time, with approximately one in five university students in the UK now report having a mental health diagnosis, according to recent data from the Higher Education Policy Institute in 2024.

“At a time when students are struggling to access timely healthcare and mental health support, affordable and convenient services are essential. We’ve seen that some institutions have been operating at capacity to provide mental health services, and while this shows incredible dedication, those institutions also need better support,” said Alexandra Haider, student expert at Student Beans.

While the partnership means students will be able to access more benefits and services on their own terms, HealthKey founder David Joerring also hopes the partnership will help reduce the burden currently placed in the NHS and help students access more preventative healthcare, until now largely only enabled by expensive private insurers. “A big part of why we’re so excited about this is that we’ve been able to leverage the partnerships we have to bring down the cost of this kind of insurance so that it’s even affordable for students” he said.

The partnership will offer Student Beans members unlimited access to GP consultations via text (including WhatsApp) and video, therapy services, and three wellbeing mental health apps for £59 per year. Students can easily text healthcare professionals with questions, attach photos of health concerns, and receive prescriptions when they need them.

Some of the services delivered by this partnership and the benefits it will provide:

· Mental Health Support and Therapy: Students will get access to professional therapy services and mental health apps, providing crucial support during exam stress, adjustment periods, or personal challenges without lengthy NHS waiting lists

· Confidential Text-Based Healthcare: The text and WhatsApp consultation system creates a comfortable environment for discussing sensitive health matters that students might feel awkward asking about in person or over the phone

· Video Call Consultations: Students can also schedule video calls when they prefer face-to-face interaction for more complex health concerns

· Transparent Doctor Matching: Unlike traditional healthcare systems, students can see exactly which doctor they're being matched with, including their credentials and practice information

· 24/7 availability: Access to healthcare professionals fits around lectures, part-time jobs, and social commitments
